After completing your legal degree you have to pass an entry test organized by provincial bar council for getting the license of an advocate. After two years of practice in lower courts you can apply for license of advocate high court. Here you have to appear in an interview. After ten year of practice you can apply for license of a advocate Supreme court. Now PBC has reduced this duration to 7 years. Again here too you will have to appear for an interview before senior judges of Supreme court of Pakistan and members of Pakistan Bar Council.
Although it is a self employed career still you can also get government and private jobs. You can become legal adviser of any company. Two year after legal practice you can appear in exam for becoming a civil judge. You can also appear in the public service commission’s exam for the post of public prosecutor. If you are good in academics then it is a highly recommended exam for you. After 7 years of practice you can appear in the exam for selection of additional session judge. This profession demands dedication, passion, patience and hard work. But If you stick to the profession for some period you will definitely become a good lawyer.
Its better for you to join the chamber of a professional and senior lawyer in the initial stage. This decision plays a very important role in your career growth as a lawyer. It is also recommended to get some post graduate qualification for improving your skills. L.L.M is one of the best option. Here in Pakistan it is a two year program, while in UK and some other countries you can complete L.L.M in one year.
