This locally administered system of education is carried out in all the government schools, and is also offered in some private schools. The BISE Sahiwal board was created on June 15, 2012 by the Higher Education Department (HED) of the Punjab. Before its creation Sahiwal and Pakpattan were being looked after by the BISE Multan. Okara District was under the BISE Lahore. Today these cities and their schools are in the jurisdiction of the BISE Sahiwal board. The Board is working as an autonomous body, which has the right to make its own rules. It does not look forward to any kind of financial help from any institution. The finances are generated through the income coming from examinations and other fees.
