The Bachelor of Commerce BCom degree was introduced at the University of Birmingham. It was the initiative of Professor William Ashley. The University’s School of Commerce was set up by William Ashley who was a renowned Englishman from Oxford University. He was acclaimed to be the first Professor of Political Economy and Constitutional History, who taught at the Faculty of Arts established at the University of Toronto (Canada). He left Toronto in 1892 and spent few years of his remaining life at the world known Harvard University USA. after these few years he decided to return back to United Kingdom and opted to start working in the University of Birmingham. It was there that he took up the revolutionary step in the history of Commerce studies and laid the foundations of the School of Commerce there. Due to his efforts the degree program was started, which is now known as B.Com (Bachelor of Commerce).
